Introduction

Combining two sub-disciplines of political science, the department of political systems and Public Policy is one of the two major departments at the College of Political Sciences at the University of Duhok. This combination makes this department one of the most interesting departments of political science in the Kurdistan Region of Iraq, and perhaps in the whole of Iraq. Adopting an interdisciplinary approach, the department strives for the achievement of two major goals:

1. Increasing knowledge of the discipline of political science.
2. Demonstrating advanced knowledge in, and understanding of, two of the subfields within the discipline.

Through a combination of in-class and online lectures, quizzes, short essays as well as interactive activities such as conducting interviews with politicians, political party and government officials, the department aims to cultivate necessary skills in students to understand and use the methods that political scientists use to explain, describe, analyses and predict about politics. The department also aims to enable students to develop a deeper understanding of systems of government and public policymaking in the twenty-first century.
