  • BA in English Language, College of Education, University of Zakho, 2013

I have extensive experience in language teaching at the university level. I have been teaching Listening and Speaking since 2019 to students across all college levels. Through this course, I focus on developing learners’ communicative competence, pronunciation, fluency, and confidence in real-life language use. My teaching approach integrates interactive activities, task-based learning, and continuous feedback to help students strengthen their listening comprehension and oral expression skills in academic and everyday contexts.

In addition to teaching and supervision, I have been actively involved in a variety of academic and student-centered activities that contribute to the development of the department and the broader university community. I actively participate in the department’s “Walk to Talk” activity, an annual event that promotes English language practice in an engaging, real-world context. During this event, students and faculty members walk approximately 5 kilometers while engaging in continuous English conversation, fostering authentic communication and interaction outside the classroom. The activity concludes with a picnic that includes group discussions, games, and collaborative tasks, creating a relaxed environment that strengthens teacher–student relationships, builds confidence in speaking English, and enhances the overall sense of community within the department. In addition, I regularly take part in seminars and workshops, contributing to academic discussions and professional development initiatives that support both faculty growth and student learning.

Research

Evaluating Grammatical Competence in Kurdish EFL Junior Students' Writings at the English Department, College of Languages, University of Duhok

My research interests lie in the field of Applied Linguistics and TESOL, with a particular focus on language teaching and learning processes. I am especially interested in exploring how different instructional methods and pedagogical approaches influence students’ language development, proficiency, and motivation. My work examines the effectiveness of various teaching strategies in enhancing communicative competence and fostering learner engagement in both EFL and ESL contexts.

I have actively supervised several fourth-stage graduation projects over the past years, guiding students through the full cycle of project design, development, and implementation. My supervision has covered a wide range of topics. These projects include teaching strategies for developing speaking; mainly vocabulary, pronunciation, and fluency, each tailored to address real-world experiences or challenges. Through this role, I have helped students integrate theoretical knowledge with hands-on teaching skills, encouraging teamwork, critical thinking, and problem-solving. My approach to supervision focuses on fostering modern teaching methods and preparing students for professional success in the fields of English and education.
